In the fourth episode of our podcast, Alicja Schindler talks to the painter Caroline Bachmann. For Berlin Art Week 2024, Meyer Riegger opened her solo exhibition Le Rhin. For this series of 24 paintings, Bachmann embarked on two journeys along the river. 24 views of the Rhine are not that many, when you compare this figure with the number of pictures of Lake Geneva that Bachmann has painted to date. The artist first began painting the lake at sunrise or dawn twelve years ago. For this episode’s talk, Alicja Schindler met Caroline Bachmann in her studio in Berlin-Friedrichshain. They talk about her journey along the river, why it never gets boring to paint the same old lake and and why the area around the village where Bachmann lives today is much more important in terms of art history than she would ever have suspected.
