(En) On the occasion of Kunsttage Basel 2022, Meyer Riegger is delighted to open the group exhibition Des rencontres et des liens. The temporary presentation, which runs until 23 September, will take place on the upper floor of Galerie Knoell. On display will be a constellation of artistic positions, featuring eight artists linked by diverse connections, be it through their artistic practice, education, friendships or an exchange of content. As suggested by the title, the presentation is about meetings and encounters – about being together. But it is also about common ground – links, connections and cohesion – themes that could not be more important in the face of the pandemic, war or growing crises.
The loose lines of connection, brought about through friendships and encounters, do not reveal direct formal or programmatic references to each other, but instead appear intermittently and in different ways, be it in abstract painterly gestures or narrative elements. This is also how this free and open exchange is to be understood – reciprocal playful references and a friendly interplay – inspiring connections that are free of hierarchy and linking the artists, who are separated by more than three decades, through this approach.
In spite of numerous similarities, (biographical) overlaps or thematic connections, the exhibition also presents a space filled with tensions and differences. Functioning as a multiplier of artwork, artist, space and viewer, visitors are invited to become active themselves and to understand the exhibition as a place of encounter.
